The secret to a flawless makeup application lies in how well you take care of your skin. Having a skin care routine is a priority (for both men and women) in order to ensure that you remain flawless even when you have no makeup on. While there are a lot of products with various price ranges in the market in which you can incorporate in your routine, why not save some coin and make yours at home? 😁

I’m a big believer in the fact that if you focus on good skin care, you really won’t need a lot of makeup!”

In this post, I’m sharing some homemade skin care DIYs I have tried alongside their benefits and the good news is that the ingredients for them are readily available at home! Also note that what works for me may not necessarily work for you. Please before trying out any of these recipes, make sure to do a bit of research to know how each ingredient would react when applied to your skin.

Almost everyone and their mamas know how awesome turmeric powder is for the skin! The skin benefit of turmeric is numerous- it adds glow, fades acne scars, corrects uneven skin tone and the rest. Although turmeric powder can easily be found anywhere, an alternative is palm oil. Yes, it does the same job of brightening the skin.

All you have to do is mix some quantity of turmeric powder or palm oil with honey and apply to your clean skin. Wait for some minutes and then, wash off. The results may not be instant but with continuous use, you’ll be sure to get them.

This has to be one of my favorite skin care DIYs ever! If you have been following this blog for a while, then you’ll know how particular I am about exfoliating. No skin scrub? No problem!

This DIY exfoliant will get rid of dead skin cells, minimize pores, allow for absorption of other skin care products and generally, give a healthy and glowing skin!

Add a bit of crushed brown sugar with honey and rub paste in circular motion on your wet skin. Rinse off after few minutes and trust me, you will feel the result immediately 😁

This mask is fantastic for those with oily skin! Baking soda helps reduce acne by getting rid of excess oil. Also, it helps tighten and firm skin while smoothing out fine lines.

As awesome as it is, I recommend doing this once in a week or two. Using this mask regularly may lead to dry skin which is another problem on it’s own!

Simply add some amount of baking soda with a little water to form a thick paste and apply on your skin. Leave for some minutes and then wash off. You will notice some changes immediately! It is advisable to moisturize after this as we don’t want our skin to dry out.

If you want to get rid of blackheads, egg white is your weapon! In addition to this, it tightens skin therefore preventing wrinkles. The lemon in this mix helps to lighten any kind of skin discoloration. However, I use only honey as I am not sure how my skin would react to lemon. Again, before trying out any of these DIYs, please ensure that you have done some research, thank you!

Mix the ingredients in equal proportion and using a makeup brush, apply to skin. You can be extra and slap some paper towel on your face to make peeling off easier. After the mix has completely dried on your skin, gently peel off and continue with the rest of your routine.

Do I have to say more? 😁 Rose water is awesome and that’s it! I recommend having a bottle of this with you always as it maintains the pH balance of your skin, it could double as a toner and most importantly, it refreshens the skin! Beauty lovers also use rose water as a setting spray (yes, I do too).

I got a bottle of rose water for less than one thousand naira from an online store but if your frugal self won’t allow, you can make yours at home following the steps HERE.

Having a skin care routine doesn’t mean you have to break the bank. Most of the ingredients at home can do the job as well and the best part is there is no chemical involved, especially if you are a lover of natural products!
If there’s any left over, please preserve in a tight container and store in a cool dry place although I wouldn’t advise to keep for more than a week or two. And that’s basically it! Do something your skin will thank you for in the next 5 years today.

If you have further questions, my DMs are open 24/7 (okaayy.. maybe not all the time 😉) and I’ll be sure to get back to you on time.

Love always❤
